Places of interest

Cuxhavener Küstenheide

The Cuxhavener Küstenheide (meaning "coastal heathland") is a unique natural landscape that stretches from Duhnen to the small village of Oxstedt, thus comprising the biggest area of heathland on the northern German mainland. Heck cattle, European bison and wild horses have been resettled and they graze here, preserving the typical natural landscape of dwarf shrubs and grassland.

You will find this unique coastal forest in the Sahlenburg district of Cuxhaven. But what makes it so special? It is the only forest by the German North Sea coast that directly borders on the Wadden Sea. Don't forget to visit the Finkenmoor, the small inland lake in the centre of the Wernerwald. There's also a children's adventure playground nearby.
